Once upon a time, there was a little boy whose name was Scott. Scott was sad. He thought about growing up, being a poor little boy like he was now. He was weak and had no parents or sister. No one ever talked to him, even though he had one little coin, one little dollar, and one teeny tiny little penny and a quarter. Scott hardly had a voice, but he just had to sleep on a hard concrete floor with mud all around.
Every morning he woke up, and this was what he would do all day: he would sit on the side of the road, putting up his thumb, because he wanted a ride. Scott didn't want to have anything else except a ride to a new home. Plus, he didn't have a home! The only place he had to sleep was on a square piece of concrete on sloshy mud.
But Scott knew that tomorrow would be his birthday. He made a mad face and took a handful of mud and threw it at a car going by. He did this because he didn't want to get any older. He wanted to find some parents and a big sister. But when he woke up the next morning, he found people celebrating all around him! Some people had presents, and some people had pies or cake. And some people had stacks of presents or stacks of cake or stacks of pie that looked like a diamond or a square. Scott was surprised! He didn't know who to choose to have a ride home with. He gave some of them a penny or a quarter. He gave some of them his dollar. And the person who had the dollar (a twenty dollar bill), picked Scott to come home with them.
"Scott, you come home with me. I have a rich husband who has more money than you have. He has so much money, he has every room in the house packed with money. Even his bedroom was filled with money. He had to sleep with money on his face and money on his bed and money under his bed!"
Scott gasped. "I could home with you!"
And everybody cheered "Yay!"
Then everybody started throwing money out of their wallets, pockets, or money cases (money cases are cases that you put your money in). And every one of them landed in Scott's hand, because Scott's hands were flat out trying to catch the money. Soon Scott started throwing money all around him, trying to get the money out of his eyes.
"Here you go! I love all this money, but you can have part of your money back. I am going to a rich husband you know!"
When Scott was at the rich husband's house, he saw the rich husband with money glued to his mouth, the sides of his nose and even eyes! The husband was cooking, and humming a little tune to himself. The tune goes like this:
Oh when I was a little girl,
I was running around
I was jogging with tennis shoes on
My name was Jane.
That was the end of the tune.
Love,
Caroline

That sounds like a fairy tale! I am having my 6th graders write fairy tales right now. You should come visit and read yours to them!
