Chapter One
Hi. My name is Cynthia. My brother Darren is standing right beside me. Want me to tell you our story? You do? Okay, well here goes.
Our mother had lots of other children. We didn't think she would mind, so we went out at midnight and brought a flashlight and a map. There was a splotch of black paint on the map, and that was where we wanted to go. The writing under it was smudged.
We started on our way. After about an hour, our map accidentally blew away. All we had was a flashlight now. We were scared. We huddled together. Then we saw something up ahead. We thought it was a house. It was. All of a sudden it started to rain. We didn't want to go in the house, but we decided that we had to. The house was surrounded by a barbed wire fence. We didn't want to know if it was electric or not, so we dug a hole under it and came out in the other side.
Shivering and wet, we knocked on the door. We heard a clattering sound from inside the house. Then the door opened. I looked at Darren, because I was too scared to face my fears. I realized that Darren was staring at the figure that had opened the door with his mouth hanging open.
I slowly looked over, and then I screamed. What I saw was an eight or nine foot tall man with glowing red eyes and claws. I wanted to run away, but my feet were frozen to the floor. Then the creature reached out his long spindly arms and grabbed me by the waist. He threw me inside the house. He did the same to Darren.
"What are you doing here?!" He roared.
Chapter Two
I was going to answer, but I didn't know what to say. Darren quickly piped up. "We were walking along, and then we lost our map. We were so scared! But then we came across your house just when it started raining. We crawled under the fence and here we are!"
I gave Darren a look. Why would he tell the monster everything? He winked at me, and said, "April Fool's!" to the monster.
The monster frowned at him, and said, "What? It's June!" We were confused. Our kitchen calendar said April.
The monster laughed and exclaimed, "Why, I just fooled you!"
We all laughed together, but the monster lurched forward, grabbed us, and pulled us deeper. A sincere look came over his face. "We shouldn't be laughing now. Come into my lab."
We followed him, when all of a sudden, we were inside a room filled with test tubes and potions. As quick as lightning, he shoved a spoonful of something down my throat.
Chapter Three
Darren gasped. "Cynthia, are you alright?!"
I couldn't answer. I felt dizzy. I started to choke. The liquid felt like a snake, slithering down my throat. I could feel myself growing. I was now as tall as the monster, but I was still growing taller! Soon, there was no room to stand up anymore, so I had to sit down.
The monster chuckled. "Call me Exors." He cleared his throat and gave a sharp whistle. I was suddenly drawn to the whistle. I couldn't help it! Blindly, I answered, "Exors, I am one of you now." I covered my mouth. Did I just say that?
Something bumped my shoulder. I whirled around. Darren.
I looked down. Another Darren was on the ground. Which one was real; could I choose or not?
Chapter Four
I had an idea. I called out a high pitched whistled. The giant Darren came toward me. The Darren on the ground kept staring at Exors. I suddenly knew in my mind which one was the real Darren. The smaller one that was on the ground was the real Darren.
I gasped. Master Exors was feeding the real Darren a concoction. All of a sudden, Darren started to grow small. Smaller than I'd ever seen. Pretty soon, I couldn't see him anymore.
Master Exors laughed. "You two will never stop me now!"
